Holiday Gift Guide: Geno 2.0 by National Geographic

Stephs Cheers and Jeers was provided the samples mentioned in this post in return for an unbiased review.

Geno 2.0 by National Geographic is a DNA kit that helps you discover your ancestry and learn details about your ancestral makeup. Gen 2.0 is perfect for people who are curious about their family history and this test even tells you if you are related to famous people such as Benjamin Franklin and Nikola Tesla.

Once you place an order for a kit, you are sent a DNA collection kit which involves providing a small saliva sample and mailing it back. Once your DNA sample arrives back at Helix they will sequence your DNA from your saliva and email when the results are ready.

I used the kit to collect my mothers DNA because I recently had my DNA tested and I was curious to see what her results would say. We are currently waiting on the results but when they arrive I will be sure to update this post.

Geno 2.0 really does provide loads of information including a break down of your ancestry by region which goes as far back as 500,000 years, a percentage of how much of your DNA is similar to the Neanderthals and Geno 2.0 also uses your mitochondrial DNA to trace your maternal lineage which is super fascinating.

Geno 2.0 is $69.95 and the Helix DNA Kit is $80, Helix offers other services and once you provide a sample you will never have to give another sample if you want to order other kits.
Geno 2.0 plus the Helix DNA kit is typical $149.95 but through January 1, 2017,  at 2:59 AM, you can get both Geno 2.0 and the Helix DNA kit for just $69.95.
I will be sure to update this post when the results come in!
