Holiday Gift Guide: Vivitar Drone

Stephs Cheers and Jeers was provided the samples mentioned in this post in return for an unbiased review.

I have been on the hunt for a drone for awhile now and when I came across Vivitar I was super excited to see they offer two different models at affordable prices.

Vivitar was founded in 1938 as ‘Ponder and Best’ by Max Ponder and John Best in California. They started by imported German-made photo equipment and later on began introducing more brands to the American Market such as Mamiya/Sekor 35mm cameras, Kobena 8mm movie cameras, Sankyo/Komura wide/tele adapter lenses and a full line of photographic darkroom equipment that was imported from many manufacturers throughout Japan and later Taiwan. Vivitar was created to compete with major lens manufacturers, they later branched out and began selling a line of 35 mm Cameras including an SLR and the Vivitar 35ES/EE series of rangefinder cameras. In 1997 it was announced the company would split into two divisions: the Photographics and Optics Division, and the Electronics and Digital Imaging Division then in 2010 they began to expand to carry Bluetooth speakers, headphones, earphones, power banks and assorted chargers. Today they have a wonderful selection of affordable tech products.

Vivitar offers two drones, I decided on the Vivitar Air Defender X Camera Drone W/ Wi-fi because the Wi-Fi option sounded great to me.

The Vivitar Air Defender X Camera Drone W/ Wi-fi features an aerial cam, 32 LED lights for night flying and can even be controlled by an app on your phone. It also features a built-in Micro SD slot, has a flight range of 200 meters and allows you to easily do tricks with just the push of a button. Each battery has a 5 to 7 minutes of flight time, you receive two batteries and it takes around 120-minutes to recharge.

I have trouble getting my phone to always connect to the Wi-fi option but when I can the app is really neat, it allows you to control the drone as well as take video and pictures. This thing is super fun, I just wish it had a longer battery life. Its super lightweight so it can’t really be flown on windy days but its a great starter drone! I have no real experience with drones and I had a lot of fun playing with it.

You can buy Vivitar products at Walmart, Staples, Target, Amazon, Groupon and more!
