Okocat is a line of natural cat litters that are made from 100% reclaimed fiber, they sell four different varieties. The varieties are Natural Wood, Natural Wood for Long Hair Breeds, Pine and Natural Paper.

Okocat was kind enough to send me a box of their Long Hair Breeds Clumping Cat Litter to review recently.

This variety is specially designed for long haired cats, many owners of long haired cats find that cat litter often sticks to their fur, but this variety is perfect for long haired cats as its designed not to stick to their hair. The dense pellets also clump but will not be carried through the house.

It has 7 day odor control, will absorb 500% its weight, is clumping and anti-bacterial, best of all its free of chemicals, dyes and other synthetics.

Okocat is naturally lightweight and comes in a smart compostable package with an easy carry handle and pour spout.

They also only use 100% sustainable and renewable wood fibers,it starts with naturally fallen timber or unused lumber materials that would otherwise go to waste. The wood is then chipped and pelleted along with proprietary plant-based binders that improve the finished product. Their fiber supply is sourced through suppliers that comply with policies set forth by the Forest Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative or the Forestry Preservation and Forestry Promotion Act, and consists of a variety of softwood trees including but not limited to spruce, pine and fir.

Okocat litter is 100% biodegradable. The litter degrades quickly and cleanly unlike clay litters that sit in landfills for years. The litter is also completely compostable, although we do not recommend putting used litter feces clumps in your compost bin.

Review:

I was super excited to try a new type of litter as I am sick of traditional clay litter being tracked through the house. I was super surprised at how lightweight the litter is. Fuzzy Bear seemed to really like using it, I switched her over slowly by mixing clay and Okocat litter and she did fine, then I switched her completely and for about a week she used it every day and then suddenly she stopped using it. I could not get her to use it again so I ended up donating the remainder to the humane society. I really loved it and was sad when Fuzzy stopped using it because I began to really enjoy using it, it was convenient and I no longer had litter outside of the box and tracked all over my house. I found that it clumped very nicely and lived up to my expectation.

The litter comes in 8.4lb, 13.5lbs and 20.2lbs.
