June Apocabox Unboxing

Stephs Cheers and Jeers was provided the samples mentioned in this post in return for an unbiased review.

Apocabox is our first sponsorship as a part of our new segment on our blog called NorthWoods Hiker, if you have missed the announcement I will do a quick recap. My boyfriend Travis and I will be posting reviews, survival tips and all things tactical, camping and outdoorsy. A big thank you to ApocaBox for sending us their June box to review.

Apocabox is a subscription box that is all things survival. Every other month you will receive a hand-selected collection of survival tools, gear, information and more.  Every box also contains a survival skills challenge that is designed to teach you a specific survival skill. It is a password protected video tutorial by Creek Stewart who is the founder and a survival instructor.

Let’s take a look at the June Box and all the goodies that were included:

  • Strawberry Hoe which is an exclusive hand forged tool that was made FOR Apocabox. This hoe is designed for wild foraging or everyday gardening. You do need to source a handle for this hoe and there is an included link to a video that shows how to choose and fit the hoe with a handle.
  • Foraging Field Kit Bag is a durable cotton canvas bag which is made for storing your foraging tools. It’s a good sized bag and definitely one of my favorite items included.
  • Mushroom Knife which features a curved stainless steel blade which is designed for foraging mushrooms. It features a boar hair brush which is perfect for clearing your mushrooms of debris as well as a metal flip which allows you to secure the knife to your pack or pants.
  • Tiny Surivival Guild+Wallet Fire Starting Lens is the size of an average business card and is packed with 175 expert tips, 101 detailed illustrations, 67 life-saving skills, 24 essential gear checklist and more. Topic covered includes Wilderness Mishaps, Civil Unrest, Surprise Attack, Natural Disaster, Mass Destruction, Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Disasters, Abduction, Hostage and more. The pages are tear proof and waterproof which makes this a great addition to any EDC(Every Day Carry).
  • Coast Cricket Energy Bar is made using cricket protein and is high in B12, vitamins, minerals, dairy free, non-GMO, and soy free. They are made in Canada and surprisingly are VERY tasty. I have always wanted to try cricket protein and I was very impressed.
  • Natrapel Wipes which are travel sized tick and insect wipes that are perfect for bug out bags, day packs, purses, and first aid kits. They offer up to 12 hours of protection, the 20% active ingredient of Picaridin has been clinically proven to be a better alternative to DEET.
  • Instafire Packs which were featured on the hit show Shark Tank are military grade and one pack can light up to four fires. They are perfect for starting fires, lighting wood burning stoves, starting cooking fires, and building an emergency fire. They are designed to light wet wood, burn up t0 1000 degrees, can withstand wind up to 30mph, floats on water, burns on snow and won’t flare up unexpectedly. It carries a 5-year shelf life, the pouch is waterproof and there no harmful chemicals so its safe to store near food.
  • Sharpmaster Knife Sharpening System is a must-have for every bug out bag or every day carry. It’s designed to sharpen dull knives in seconds and is perfect for single and double-edged blades. The corse sharpener is perfect for touching up dull blades and the ceramic wheel is for adding a fine cutting edge. Remember a dull knife is a DANGEROUS knife.
  • Raethco Ferrotstrike and Exclusive Online Fire Course, the Raethco Ferrotstrike is a 5/16 x 3.15″ Ferro-rode with a 1/4 x 4″ W1 tool steel scraper. The Online Course teaches you how to use this combo kit properly and also teaches you how to use the Instafire packs.

Thoughts:

My boyfriend really seemed to like the box, he felt it was well put together and all the items included were well thought out. His only suggestion would be that in order to cover all bases he would have liked to see something like an emergency poncho(because they can be used for shelter, elemental protection, and water gathering). Overall though he was very impressed with the box and feels its a wonderful steal for the price and a great box for people looking to build their bug out bag or every day carry.
