Red Barn Bakery Cafe Review

L9eoURed Barn Bakery Cafe  is a little gem located in the small yet beautiful town of Ascutney, VT. Its located less than a mile off 1-91 Exit 8 and situated near Route 5, 131 and 12.

The Red Barn Bakery Cafe first opened in 2003 by two men. Since 2003 it has changed owners a few times and sadly enough in March 16, 2014 they closed. But In June of 2014, Mother and Son team Bev Savage and her son Josh Savage purchased the business and opened July 1st, 2014.

Review:

I have actually eaten here twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch on two separate occasions and had similar experiences.

Breakfast Review:

I ordered the The Vermonter Sandwich which consists of fried egg, cheddar cheese, candied bacon, and green apple grilled on homemade cinnamon raisin bread and I ordered a hot cocoa.

The sandwich was made fresh and didn’t take long to arrive. The bread is their homemade bread and as you can see in the picture was toasted. The egg was cooked PERFECTLY and the candied bacon was sweet yet still tasted like bacon. The sandwich had a great maple flavor and the apples were fresh and cut perfectly thin.

This is the ULTIMATE Vermont Breakfast sandwich In my opinion and I will DEFINITELY be returning for breakfast in the future!

The hot cocoa is made using their own home made mix and is a great blend of chocolate flavor. I actually complimented them on it because one of my biggest pet peeves when ordering hot cocoa is getting a cup full of chocolate flavored-ish water.

Lunch:

For lunch I ordered the Chicken Mushroom Melt which consists of Chicken breast, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, onion, and pesto mayo and an Iced Tea.

Like the breakfast sandwich this was made to order and arrived fast with a side of chips and a pickle. I was really surprised at the thick slices of chicken breast on the sandwich. I actually got cheddar cheese on mine instead of swiss but I can imagine with the swiss cheese it would be just as good. The pesto mayo was PHENOMENAL!

This whole sandwich was fantastic and fresh tasting. The iced tea was REAL brewed iced tea and tasted great!

Final Thoughts:

I was super impressed with the food and the staff was all very kind and accommodating. I ADORE the atmosphere, it screams rustic Vermont and its very comfortable. There is a great amount of parking and even though it is situated on a main road, its quiet and a great located to stop in and eat. I am very impressed and will be making this my go to spot for breakfast and lunch.

They do offer Wifi and accepts credit card and debit card.

  • Steph,

Thank you so much for your kind words about the Red BARN Café Bakery. Beverly is our daughter and Josh our grandson. The other worker there is Leah who is a granddaughter. They have worked so hard to make this a place people want to come and your comments touched my heart. Thanks so much.
