In honor of the release of Suffragette, a movie dedicated to the fight woman faced to acquire equal rights, which opened last Friday in LA & NY and will continue to open across the country through Thanksgiving. Bloggers are celebrating The”19 Days of Suffrage” which is in honor of the 19th Amendment, which granted women in the United States the right to vote in 1919.
I am posting today to discuss a few woman in history that are influences to me, My mother who is a major influence in my life and whom I think would be a good choice to be featured on the new $10 bill.
There have been MANY influential woman through history, Susan B. Anthony,Rosa Parks & Harriet Tubman, mental health Dorothea Dix, and Helen Keller to name a few. Did you know that even though these woman were very influential they couldn’t vote at some point in their life time? I am appalled by that!
One woman who stands out to me is Marie Curie. She was a physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was also the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, her long term research of radioactivity however lead to her death in 1934.
Helen Keller is another very influential woman to be, as I suffer from my own disabilities and I am just amazed at all she came to accomplish. Many might not know but She was the first deafblind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. She was also an amazing advocate for folks with disabilities.
I personally think one of these two woman would be a great candidate for being featured on the new $10 bill.
Like many woman I am lucky to have a strong role model whom is my mother. She is a strong and beautiful woman and she is a gigantic influence in my life. I don’t know what I would do without her! Thank you Mom <3
Be sure to catch the movie!
