Beware! Beware! Beware! Beware! Beware! Beware! Beware!
Hello lovely readers and followers of Stephs Cheers and Jeers! I wanted to send out a warning to everyone regarding Luvs diapers and the chemical burns that are created!
I began using Luvs diapers like any mother normally chooses to do, because they are the cheapest on the market that aren’t store brand, and you get more per pack then most other brands. I noticed within a couple of days my 31 month old seemed to be getting a diaper rash. At the time we still had some Pampers Baby Dry diapers, as well as White Cloud so I thought nothing of this and we just kept an eye on it.
In the last few days, when we ran out of the other brands and were only on Luvs my daughter began breaking out with a horrible redness. We were unsure of what it was, so we used yeast infection ointments, diaper rash creams, we were reduced to rubbing neosporin with pain relief trying to stop the pain she was in. She was jittery getting into cool baths (and normally she is a frog in water!). This morning when I opened her night time diaper, I was horrified. She was completely burned, and the burn itself was all open skin.
I took her to the pediatrician who informed me she did have a chemical burn from the diapers. It is the gel that is used to pull the moisture from the child’s body, it causes reactions of this. I’d had this happen before when my daughter was in Pampers Cruisers but she was very young so I didn’t think it would happen again. She is now on a burn cream, antibiotics, and neosporin to prevent infection. The doctor was shocked that my daughter was not screaming non-stop at how painful her burn looked and how bad it truly was.
PLEASE beware of these diapers, and choose another brand if you currently use them! At any time your child could have a reaction to the gel and you could end up with the same problem!
On a slightly positive note:I called LUVS once the doctor told me to stop using them and informed them of the situation. They are sending us a $20 Visa Gift Card to be used for new diapers that will arrive in 4-6 weeks. So they do feel bad that this happened, though I find it interesting at how she sounded not surprised by the call or what it pertained to.
So please remember to keep this all in mind!
