I am a huge history buff! In fact, history was my favorite subject in school and on the weekends I would spend HOURS at the library reading about historical events. I occasionally still do that but I don’t often have the time to head to the library and just read for hours like I use to. While searching around the internet I came across History Unboxed and I seriously squealed with excitement when I came across their site.
History Unboxed is a subscription box and on-demand educational resources for students ages 5-15. Their boxes often are based on a n ancient location and they currently offer Ancient Australia, Anglo-Saxons, Athens, Babylon, China, Egypt, Ghana, and Japan. Their boxes also are designed for different age groups, the first box is for ages 5-9 is highly visual based briefer conversation points to help start a dialogue about history. It is also more heavily screened for historic violence and is kept age appropriate for the youngest students. The box for ages 10-15 contains a lot more detailed and in depth details. Crafts in both boxes are normally identical with sometimes the box designed for ages 10-15 containing a more complex version than the box designed for ages 5-9 box.
I received the box designed for ages 10-15 and the focus was Ancient Australia box! Even though the box is designed for ages 10-15 I decided to enjoy it because like I said above I am a huge history buff and I swear I’m a teenager at heart.
The box contained:
- Pigment to make ancient paint(to recreate 40,000 year old cave art)
- Large piece of paper to make your cave art on
- Returning boomerang to design and paint
- Candy with a bug inside!(it might sound gross but its really cool!
- Aboriginal creation story
- Coloring page
- TONS of info about Ancient Australia
My favorite part of this whole box was the pigment to recreate 40,000 year old cave art! It was SUPER fun and messy!(I love getting messy). I also really like painting the boomerang. The information that came with the box was well written and I had learned some things I didn’t know!
When you subscribe the first box you will receive is a welcome kit which contains some great items such as interactive timeline poster, welcome letter, time capsule kit and more! Then each month you will receive a box that focuses on a different ancient location.
You can subscribe monthly for $36.97, 3 months for $105.50, and 12 months for $413.67. You can also add a sibling to any subscription for an extra $19.99. You can also buy in stock boxes for $29.97.
