Stephs Cheers and Jeers was provided a Do Your Gin kit in return for inclusion on our Blog.
I love DIY and infusion is something that I’ve always had fun doing. I have made my own alcohol infusions in the past so when I came across Do Your Gin I was really interested in the concept.
Do Your Gin was founded by Brothers, Vincent, and Leon who are from Berlin, Germany. The company started with a passion to blend affordable alcohol infusion with botanicals.
Each kit comes with the following:
- 2 empty glass bottles with natural wooden cork stoppers
- stainless steel funnel and 2 filters
- 3 recipes
- information on each botanical
- green cardamom pods, hibiscus flowers, coriander seeds, cubeb pepper, lavender flowers, laurel leaves, orange peel, pink peppercorns, licorice root, and juniper berries.
The kit is super simple to use! You just have to purchase a base alcohol. The company suggests using a good Vodka and brands such as Absolut Vodka or Smirnoff Vodka are suggested. I decided to use Smirnoff as it was on sale at the time of purchase.
Now, I am not going to lie I did NOT read the directions correctly. You are SUPPOSED to first infuse the juniper berries for 24 hours THEN add your botanicals for 12 hours but I infused the juniper berries and the botanicals at the same time.
I followed one of the suggested recipes and made two batches that contained coriander seeds, green cardamom, hibiscus flowers, lavender flowers, and orange peel.
Experience:
I let this mixture infuse for a little over 24 hours, strained it, and put it back in the bottle. My first taste test was very pleasant. My fiance also made a batch of the traditional gin using the recipe provided. I personally preferred my batch over his because mine was florally and the traditional was more spiced.
We decided to do the kit as a date night and it was super fun, especially during this COVID lockdown. I think Do Your Gin makes a perfect gift for any spirits or botanical enthusiast and is GREAT for Father’s Day!
You can purchase a Do Your Gin kit for $59.99 and at the date of this post they are currently running a sale for $49.99!
