CEO Tyson came up with the idea for the Shed Defender back in 2011. His goal was to create a product that could help combat his St. Bernard’s excessive shedding. He has since perfected the design and many pet parents use the Shed Defender to help control shedding, reduce anxiety and for medical reasons. I decided to give this neat little Onsie a try because of Rosie’s skin condition.
The Shed Defender is made from an eco-friendly, lightweight and breathable polyester and spandex blend and has a zipper that runs underneath the chest which can easily be unzipped for potty breaks.
I decided to try both a size xs and a small because Rosie fell in between the sizing. The xs was really snug on her and that the small fit much better. They have a wonderful sizing chart on their website that lists all of the measurements and they offer sizes mini-giant which means it will fit most dog breeds.
They do note on their website that some breeds are more difficult to size including bulldogs, corgis, basset hounds, and dachshunds. If the legs are too long you can cut them but keep in mind you can not return it if you alter it.
Thoughts:
Rosie did really well with the Shed Defender, my only suggestion is do not leave your pet unattended while wearing it because Rosie tore the zipper off hers. The Shed Defender worked great until Rosie decided she had enough of it. So if your dog isn’t a complete brat like mine I highly recommend the Shed Defender! I found that it really did help protect Rosie’s skin, especially when it comes to her environmental allergies.
The Shed Defender ranges in price from $39.99-$62.99 depending on size and color.
