Spiced Up is a monthly subscription box that delivers hand-selected spices with facts on origin, history, and how to use them, as well as a kitchen-tested recipe.
My January box was a little delayed due to the weather here in Vermont and arrived a few days ago.
The box featured:
- Cumin Seeds which have a slightly bitter, warm and powerful flavor. They are great for breads, in curry powders, chili, Mexican food, stews and more.
- Coriander Seeds which have a mild, sweet and pleasant hint of citrus, they can be described as a cross between sage and lemon. They are great in Indian cooking, sausages, cookies, bread, cakes and falafel.
- Rosemary Salt which features rosemary and sea salt. Its great as a rub on meats, roasted veggies and etc.
- Thai One On which features peanuts, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, sea salt, red pepper, nori seaweed, ginger, honey, orange and sugar. Its great sprinkled over a rice bowl, noodles and even sushi!
- Adorable Stainless Steel Endurance Smidgen Measuring Spoon Set which features Smidge(1/32 tsp), Pinch(1/16 tsp) and Dash(1/8 tsp)
I really liked this box, the Cumin Seeds and Coriander Seeds are something I have not really worked with before so I was really excited to see them included and give them a try. I am allergic to Rosemary so I gave away the sea salt to a friend who would enjoy it. I have used the Thai One On over chicken as well as sushi bowls and its so flavorful and adds a great crunch! My favorite was the measuring spoons though, they are ADORABLE and the small size will really come in handy to ensure I’m not using to much spices.
Boxes are $20 a month and I think they are a STEAL!
