With the 4th of July approaching, its very important to me to find ways to make less garbage, I am always looking for items that are compostable and that can hold up to a good ol’ BBQ.
Repurpose Compostables was founded in 2009, Repurpose was born with its mission to replace all single use disposable plastics with high quality, innovative, plant based alternatives. Repurpose makes products from plants, not petroleum, using Ingeo™ resin and meets ASTM 6400 compostability standards.
I was sent one of each of their products.
Insulated Green Cup:
Say hello to the greenest coffee cup in the world. The technology behind the Repurpose insulated hot cup keeps hot beverages warmer longer, and prevents heat from escaping the cup while protecting the user from burning their hands without the use of sleeves, “jackets” or double-cupping! Traditional insulated cups are made by adding additional layers of paper, but the Repurpose insulated hot cup does the same, better, with our patented insulation material on a single wall cup. Our insulated cup is also chlorine free and uses soy-based inks. Best of all the product generates less CO2 than a traditional paper cup when produced due to it’s Ingeo lining, and can be composted in 90 days in a commercial composter, offering the greenest possible alternative to Styrofoam and all other non-compostable insulated cups.

These are not traditional plastic utensils. They are made from plants, not petroleum. They are also certified compostable, so they break down in a matter of months, not millenia. Best of all they have the same look and feel as the utensils you’re used to-while still being eco-friendly. With our heat tolerant technology Repurpose cutlery stands up to hot soups and other warm food while maintaining its strength. So grab some for your next picnic or party for easy, guilt-free clean up.
Review:
First off I want to start with the Cutlery, I am amazed at how amazing they are! All to often have I purchased cutlery that didnt hold up, I remember once I tried to cut chicken with some I had bought and it broke right in my mind! This cutlery is differently heavy duty. I love the fact that they dont include Petroleum and are compostable. I was even able to eat Gumbo with the spoon!
The Cups are also amazing, both are very heavy duty but are compostable, even though they are compstable they arent flimsy.
Can I throw repurpose compostables into my backyard compost?
repurpose compostables should be composted in industrial compost facilities, which contain the right managed combination of temperature and moisture. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in typical backyard composting due to the lack of high temperature and inconsistent conditions.
