Sal’s South is located in Wallingford, Vermont. It’s a tiny town about 9 miles from Rutland, VT. I was actually in Wallingford for an appointment and everyone suggested that I stop at Sal’s South and eat so I just couldn’t resist.
Sal’s South opened in 2001 and expanded in 2010. In 2012 owners Jerry Kyhill and Nick Ronfeld sold their Rutland, VT location to focus solely on Sal’s South.
They are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner(open at noon) and also offer take out every day. Its a family casual Italian restaurant that also offers beer on tap. a great wine selection and a friendly environment.
My mother and I showed up right when they opened and our sever Rachel was super friendly and promptly seated us.
The seating area was gorgeous
My mother and I ordered and the food came in a reasonable amount of time.
I ordered the Shrimp Scampi with an Italian Soup and My Mother ordered the Chicken Parm with a side salad.
We also had home made bread from Baba-A-Louis which was AMAZING!
Review:
The food was FANTASTIC! The Shrimp Scampi had a great buttery garlic flavor and the shrimp were HUGE! It tasted very fresh and the soup was also well seasoned and reminded me of a Minestrone. The sauce was of course homemade on the Chicken Parm and the the chicken was fresh tasting and it was loaded with cheese.
I live over an hour away and will DEFINITELY be making a return trip!
