Dont mind the mess in the back I am in the middle of organizing.
My mother gave me this book, Heloise All Around the House, Its seriously the best book iv ever owned, its from 1965 and is my GO TO BOOK for ALL House hold tips.
Here are a few tips below that have really helped me over the years.
All the tips below I have personally used!
- When a glass breaks in sink or on smooth surface(like the bathroom floor, Wet a paper towel and mop up all the little slivers with it! Safes your fingers!
- Butter to cold to spread? Turn a hot bowl over it(fill with hot tap water for a few seconds then empty), it will warm the butter but not melt it.
- Looking for a cheap book mark? Bobby Pins are the way to go.
- Half Cornstarch, Half Flour added to a recipe for gravy makes for a lump free home-made gravy!
- Grating onions? leave the “head” on one end to save your finger nails, no big deal, that part is usually thrown away anyways!
Here are some lips from Heloise’s Kitchen Tips that have also came in handy to me.
- sneak veggies into meatloaf for your picky eaters by mashing them
- Want juicy hamburger or meatloaf? whip one egg white and add to one pound of hamburger, fold in.
- Left over meat loaf in your fridge? Incorporate it into chili!
- Want the taste of spices but dont want them floating around in your soup? use a tea caddy, add spices, place in pot, boil and when done just remove.
- Egg Slicers make a great tool for cutting mushrooms.
- Want to get rid of air bubbles in cake? Add the batter to a pan like normal, then drop each pan onto a table from about six inches, all the bubbles rise to the surface and disappear.
I hope you enjoyed!
