I just got into a super heated discussion on a post on facebook about Breastfeeding and Bottlefeeding. Over the last few years, we hear more and more about breastfeeding in the news and recently target just announced their breastfeeding friendly policy.
While there are health benefits of breastfeeding, not all mothers can do it. Maybe they have health reasons, time restraints or maybe they simply just don’t feel like it. that is THEIR right as a mother. There are many options for a mother who can’t or doesn’t want to breastfeed, you can, of course, use a milk donor or a wet nurse like they did many years ago but in the early 1800s, a FANTASTIC invention came to the aid of mothers who had trouble breastfeeding…Infant Formula!
Now recently I’ve seen some REALLY nasty posts on social media towards formula feeding mothers, I totally understand that breastfeeding mothers get their fair share of backlash but there are laws protecting breastfeeding mothers and it’s becoming more socially acceptable. I’ve seen posts calling formula feeding mothers “lazy” and that if they “gave a crap about their kids” they would breastfeed…I was APPALLED by these comments! Being a mother, especially a NEW mother is SO tough!
I decided to write an open letter to New Mothers and to judgemental Mothers.
Dear New Moms,
Congrats on the arrival of your new bundle of joy! Your emotions are probably a rollercoaster of excitement and fear. Being a new mom is hard, especially if it’s your first child. Over the next few days, months and years you are going to experience judgement from people. It will probably start off with how you feed your child and literally never end. People can be so judgmental but just know, you as a mother know what is best for your child, listen to your instinct and don’t let the judgement of other mothers get you down.
YOU GOT THIS and YOU CAN DO THIS!
Cuddle up with your bundle of joy and ignore the haters!
Sincerely,
Someone Who Cares!
Dear Judgemental Mothers,
Before you judge someone for the choices they make regarding THEIR child, why not stop for a second and learn WHY they are making those choices. A mother might formula feed because she had cancer, or maybe she has a life threatening illness that without medication that makes it dangerous for her to breastfeed. No matter the reason,
WE ARE ALL MOTHER!
Let’s stop the judgement and start supporting each other!
Sincerely,
Why Cant We All Just Get Along?
In the end….We are all just mothers, what’s important is we LOVE our children and do what WE think is best for them
BOTH ARE BEAUTIFUL <3
