If you haven’t read my previous post, The Mister and I drove up to Rutland, Vermont a few days ago to pick up some chicken from Zaycon Foods.
Zaycon Foods is a privately owned company based in Spokane, Washington. The company was founded in 2009, their goal is to bring farm fresh foods to their customers are wholesale prices.
They offer tons of different items such as Chicken, Pork, Beef, Fish, Turkey, Berries, Fruit, Honey, Milk and even Waffles! They also even sell their own branded grilling planks.
The chicken I received is
100 % natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients
Comes directly from the processor
Sold by the case — 40 lbs in each case
Case is 18 in wide x 12 in deep x 7 in tall
The chicken comes in the original wholesale packaging and is in a water resistant cardboard case containing three or four plastic bags of fresh chicken breasts. The smaller bags are typically sealed in a larger plastic bag. The smaller bags are not uniform in weight. The Chicken breasts typically come in double-lobed pairs (“butterfly”) and will have small attached amounts of fat. Some trimming may be required.
Review:
When I originally ordered the chicken September 15th, 2014 the original pick up date was for October 20th, 2014 but on September 20th, 2014 I received an email saying the pick up date was changed to November 10th, 2014. I feel like Zaycon gave me a acceptable amount of notice that my pick up date had changed. Our pick up time was 6:00-6:30 and was easy to find. The Driver was VERY kind and even gave me plastic to put down in my backseat and loaded the box in for me. It was a little over a 45 minute drive home and when we arrived home the chicken was still very cold.
The chicken was boxed up nicely and placed in four separate bags.
The box listed very important information which I find great! I hate buying meat in the store as you do not know what farm it came from unless listed on the package.
This box came from Wayne Farms in GA. It was hatched, raised and harvested in the USA and was packaged on 11/07/14.
I was able to bag all the chicken into 10 bags. The chicken from Zaycon had no more fat on them then does the pre trimmed chicken you buy in the store. I personally like a little fat on the chicken because it gives it flavor in my opinion. The Breasts were HUGE which is great because we are eaters in our family!
I threw two breasts in my crockpot over night with some pasta sauce and this was the finished result severed over pasta.
All around I found the chicken to be very tasty and definitely more convenient then buying chicken in the store where you often have NO idea where its coming from. I REALLY love that the box lists where the chicken came from and the date it was packaged. I was highly impressed and if its in the finances I will be purchasing from them again soon.
To place an order with them is SIMPLE! You just find an event near you and order online! , then arrive at the designated time to pick up your food!
The chicken is currently sold at a price of $1.89 / lb.
I highly suggest signing up and checking their site out!
