Do you feel like you’re always behind when it comes to Christmas time? If the idea of people talking about Christmas plans, gifts, and getting ready for the holiday season starts to give you anxiety, you’ve come to the right place. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re planning for Christmas, but you can also make sure that you get ahead and enjoy the process. Here’s how.
1. Start Planning Now
First up, the best thing you can do is start planning now. Even if you’re busy, even if you’ve got other things on. If you know that you’re worried and feeling behind, getting some plans in place can help. It doesn’t mean you have to mark out time and do everything at once. It could just be figuring out who you’re seeing over Christmas and when, or it could be starting to make a note or a spreadsheet with gift ideas. Either way, just getting started can help you to feel less overwhelmed.
2. Share the Load
However, don’t feel like you have to do everything alone. Again, it can often feel like we’re the ones who need to take everything on rather than asking for help. But Christmas is a family occasion, so make sure that you share the load, delegate tasks, and ask people for help rather than feeling burdened and doing it all alone.
3. Use Handy Gift Guides
If you know that you always struggle when it comes to buying presents, it’s time to change that here. Instead of trying to figure things out or failing with your Christmas gifts, make sure that you turn to gift guides to help you. This is a great way to find inspiration. Whether you are looking for Christmas gifts for her, a one of item for your spouse, or stocking fillers for all the children in the family, you’ll find the inspiration you need. This beats scrolling the internet at night and getting nowhere.
4. Make it Minimal
However, many of us feel overwhelmed at Christmas because there’s so much consumption. While the festive spirit is always magical, the excessive amount of food, gifts, and waste can feel a lot. If you’re against that, why not make it minimal this year, opting for more homemade gifts, or reducing presents, and just focusing on quality time could be key.
5. Focus on Togetherness
Ultimately, you need to make sure that you’re focusing on togetherness above all else. This can really tie in with the idea of feeling less overwhelmed and consuming less each Christmas. It seems to be the case that as soon as November comes, or even sooner for some of us, we start to feel a little bit frantic, and we feel behind. Friends and family members are already buying gifts, making arrangements, and it can make us feel stressed. Yet, when you take that away and you focus on the spirit of the season and being together with people that you love, it changes everything and makes the Christmas season more enjoyable for us all.
