The holiday season is finally here!!
Between November and December, so many different holidays and traditions are celebrated around the world, each one bringing its own special meaning, history, and magic to this time of year.
- Christmas, celebrated on December 25th, fills homes with festive decorations, family gatherings, and gift exchanges. Many Christian families also display nativity scenes to honor the birth of Jesus.
- Boxing Day on December 26th is all about charity, shopping, and sports, and is traditionally celebrated in Great Britain and many Commonwealth countries.
- Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, usually falls in late November or December and celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple. Families light the menorah, play dreidel, and enjoy delicious foods like latkes.
- Kwanzaa (December 26th–January 1st) celebrates African heritage and focuses on seven beautiful principles like unity, creativity, and faith.
- The Winter Solstice, or Yule, marks the return of longer days and is celebrated with candlelight, feasting, and themes of rebirth and renewal.
- Some cultures also celebrate Saint Nicholas Day on December 6th, honoring the spirit of generosity that helped inspire the modern image of Santa Claus, who, fun fact, was largely popularized by Coca-Cola ads in the 1930s!
- And of course, we close out the season with New Year’s Eve, saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the new with fireworks, parties, and heartfelt resolutions.
