Do you want to be more sustainable in your life? If so, then now is the time for you to try and do something about that. It’s never too late for you to try and make a change, and when you do, you will find that it is easier than ever for you to benefit yourself and the environment.

Reduce Consumption

One of the first things you need to do is try and find ways to reduce your overall consumption. Before you go ahead and start decluttering, you need to give some thought to the stuff you are accumulating. One of the easiest ways to do this is to be more intentional about the stuff you bring into your home, and why. When you are buying something, ask yourself, Do you really need it? Is it going to last? Is it sustainable? If you can keep this in mind, then you will find that it is easier for you to reduce your environmental footprint.

Recycle Properly

You also need to make sure that you are recycling properly. When you are decluttering, it’s tempting for you to put everything into a recycling bin and call it a day. With that said, recycling isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Different councils have different ways of doing things, and some things that might be recyclable in one area won’t be in another. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to do your research and find a recycling plant you can count on to uphold the high standards you are trying to achieve. If your local centre uses a recycling center app, then you know that they are diverting waste properly and that they are also taking the time to make sure that everything is going to the right place. You should also take any rubbish you intend to recycle to a facility that has clear and transparent recycling processes. If you can do this, then you will notice a big difference in your environmental footprint.

Donate

If you want to take steps to be more green and sustainable, then another thing you can do is try and donate. If you can donate the things you don’t need, then you will be able to help other people, while also taking steps to try and keep things out of a landfill. You can also feel good knowing that something that was decluttering your space is now being put to good use elsewhere. You can also try to turn clutter into cash. Don’t forget that you can use Facebook Marketplace, Luxury Closet, and Vinted to get rid of things you don’t need. Selling can be time-consuming, and it will also take time to package things up, but the hard work is often worth the effort. Not only will you be able to free up things around the home, but you will also find that it is easier for you to give your items a second life, which will reduce your carbon footprint by quite a significant amount.
