Switchel!

Switchel also known as Hay Makers Punch is a wonderful way to stay hydrated in the summer!! A lot of the older generation here in Vermont remember their family members making it during the hot summer days. My Husband’s cousin often takes it out in the field with him when he hays. For some it might take some getting use to but it really does help keep you hydrated, cool you down and quench your thirst!

1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of raw honey*
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of ground ginger
1/4 cup of lemon juice
9 cups of water

*If you dont like honey or raw honey, you can substitute for molasses or just add 1 cup of sugar instead of 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup some other sweetener.

Mix all the ingredients into a large jug, shake, refrigerate for a few hours, serve over ice

You might need to add some extras into every glass to your liking, I often add a little more honey and water.
