DOOFOOD: Korean Meal Kit

Stephs Cheers and Jeers received samples mentioned in this post in exchange for being featured on our site.

I love the idea of meal kits because there are just some days, I don’t have any energy. I have tried a variety of them and I feel like Doofood is unique compared to the many on the market.

Doofood is an authentic Korean meal kit that is based in Queens, NY, and launched to deliver nationwide US (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) in 2021 after servicing just their local area for some time. Preparing Korean food usually involves hours of prep, making sauces, marinating meat, and more. Doofood helps cut that time in half by delivering already made sauces, marinated meat, and cut veggies to your door.

Menu List:

Their menu features a selection of foods with different spice levels and proteins. I found their menu to be pretty vast with over 100 dishes, here are a few examples of what they offer. Each dish on its website lists ingredients, nutrition facts, and more.

  • Soy Sauce Steamed Chicken
  • Spicy Pork Belly
  • Octopus with Pork Belly
  • Hot Chicken Stew
  • Soybean Stew
  • Pork with Chives
  • Bulgogi with Mushrooms
  • Bulgogi Casserole

What I received:

I received three meals: Pork Steak, Soft Tofu Stew, and Oldschool Style Bulgogi. All three dishes were flavorful and easy to make. What really sold me is I HATE prepping veggies so the fact that all of the items come pre-prepped really sold the idea for me. With some other meal kits, you still have to prep. With Doofood I was able to have super tasty dishes even on my worst chronic pain days. The fact that all three were also one-dish meals means less cleanup.

Price:

The price ranges per meal but you must purchase a minimum of $60. This might seem high but with items ranging from $3-38, you can actually get a bang for your buck and stock your fridge/freezer.

Thoughts:

  • Simple yet tasty meals.
  • No subscription is required.
  • Limits food waste
  • Ability to fully select meals
  • Ingredients are prewashed
  • Requires No Special Tools

I know many people complain about package waste when it comes to meal kits but I found that in my experience, Doofood packaging is mostly recyclable. I didn’t struggle with tons of leftover packaging that was trash like other meal kits.

Overall I am very happy with my experience and would place DooFood at the top when it comes to meal kits I’ve tried.

  • Sounds like a meal kit I’d want to try. I’ve done a few food subscription boxes here and there. I like that the items are already pre-prepped. That’s quite an advantage.
